Next Week’s Show – “40th Anniversary Of Aliens”

To commemorate the film’s 40th anniversary, Visions In Sound, hosted by Rob Daniels on 98.5 CKWR, turns its attention to one of the most intense and memorable science-fiction scores of the 1980s.

Composed by the late James Horner, the music for Aliens is a masterclass in orchestral tension, combining thunderous percussion, aggressive brass and unsettling atmospheric passages to capture both the terror of the Xenomorphs and the courage of those fighting to survive.

Remarkably, Horner had approximately two weeks to compose the score under extraordinarily difficult production circumstances. Despite these challenges, his work earned an Academy Award nomination and became one of the defining action scores of the decade.

As Visions In Sound celebrates four decades of Aliens, we’ll explore Horner’s extraordinary musical achievement, the challenges behind its creation and the enduring influence of a soundtrack that continues to thrill listeners forty years later.

And with Varèse Sarabande celebrating the anniversary through new vinyl editions of the soundtrack, Horner’s music is finding a new generation of admirers.

In Space, no one can hear you scream. But on Visions In Sound, they’ll certainly hear the music!
